MEET THE BRAND

Crafting has always been part of Emily Byars' life. When a nearby yarn store announced that it was looking for buyers, Emily and her wife saw an opportunity to learn what went into owning a small business, with the hope of eventually starting one of their own.

Instead, they discovered that Fillory Yarn was already the perfect fit. So they joined the team in 2023 and became part of a creative community built around a shared love of yarn and crafting.
 

Fillory Yarn is more than a place to buy yarn. Its San Jose store serves as a “third space” where people from different backgrounds can come together, connect, and create.

While the internet and books make it possible to learn almost anywhere, some techniques are easier to understand when demonstrated in person. Fillory Yarn regularly offers beginner classes, along with workshops that help more advanced crafters explore new techniques.

WHAT'S IN YOUR MAILER?

Emily and the Fillory team searched high and low for a print-on-demand company that shared their focus on responsible packaging.

They ultimately chose bright orange custom mailers that feel cheerful, creative, and instantly recognizable, much like the Fillory community itself.

Each Fillory Yarn order is carefully packed in a clear poly bag and includes a handwritten thank-you on the packing slip.

When they have a paper pattern that pairs well with the yarn a customer selected, the Fillory team will tuck it into the package before sealing it. It’s a thoughtful surprise that may inspire the recipient’s next project while bringing some of Fillory’s in-store warmth to customers shopping from afar.

Customers can also look forward to their new Building with Lace series, beginning in September and continuing through 2027. Each class will include a month-long mini knitalong centered around a lace project inspired by that month’s theme.
